We arrived in Coos Bay, OR on March 16th. Right away our new home felt cozy and perfect for our stay. It's an older home, but clean...clean enough for parents of a three-year-old animal explorer and giant tail wagging lab. It doesn't look like much from the front, but it's got an almost finished basement with a full bath and laundry room and a middle level with a huge kitchen and bathroom and an average sized living room and dining room. The bedrooms and one bathroom are both upstairs. It's good that home feels so good since we are here quite bit. We try to get out for a walk every day and to the library a couple of times a week. Sharing a car, the rainy weather and napping kids prevent us from getting out more. It is nice that, despite having no car most days, we're close enough to downtown Coos Bay to access grocery stores, the library and stores.
After dropping Sean off at work Emerson, Quinn, Eli and I decided to go for a drive. Just past the Super Duper Walmart I followed a sign leading to what I assumed was an ordinary park. When I drove down the street, the houses gave way to a densely wooded forest and then it opened up to a beautiful lake. And all this just a few blocks from Wally World.
John Topits park is going to take us a while to explore. During the first trip Emerson chased Eli, while I pushed Quinn in the stroller. It was so cute to see Quinn's eyes open wide, taking in her new wooded ceiling. Emerson could've happily spent the day here running all over, turning over stones and picking at rotting wood looking for "little critters," as he said. Exploring every inch of a new city...that's right, now I remember one of the things I love best about being a vagabond.
